American Craftsman Project

In a time when the economy is dominated by mass production and over consumption, it’s nice to see companies still getting it done the old fashion way, by making products from beginning to end by hand. While small businesses are the backbone of the US, they don’t receive the nationwide attention that they deserve. Photographer Tadd Myers of Texas is shedding light on these good folks in the American Craftsman Project, a series of stories and photos highlighting craftspeople in all different trades. It’s reassuring to know that there are Americans who are still passionate enough about their craft to combine blood, sweat and tears with their knowledge, passion and skills to create masterpieces that no machine in a factory could ever achieve. The Project is already under way but Tadd needs some help getting his book published, b s p o k e d definitely wants this on our coffee table so help him out!

Light Blue Ivy Polo

A polo shirt is not usually something I would get excited about wearing, because, well they are usually boring. But the good people at Left Field applied a small detail of Liberty print to the placket of a ringspun polo and came up with something fresh.
Woven, cut and sewn in the US.

Oak Street Bootmakers

Designed in Chicago, handmade in Maine. Started by the son of a cobbler, Oak Street Bootmakers are giving those other Maine-made shoe manufacturers a run for their money. I’m especially digging the Peanut Suede Vibram Sole Trail Oxford for a late summer/early fall shoe.

Genuine Horween® Peanut suede. Hand-stitched moccasin construction. Vibram sole. Form-fitting inner. Waxed stitching. Rawhide laces. Handcrafted in the USA. What more do you need to know?

Apt 606

Joining the ranks of high profiled “talent” in Miami is the men’s and women’s boutique, apt606. They are slated to open doors on August 11th along with an online shop offering brands like Nike, Thom Browne and J Brand. My favorite part has to be the sharp design of the store itself. Well designed furniture with function, from displaying product to taking a load off after a day in the intense Miami heat.

Beautiful collab between Context Clothing of Wisconsin and Alden Bootmakers. The tanker boot is made on a Barrie last with Horween’s genuine color 8 shell cordovan leather. Possibly the best shoemaking leather out there, these are guaranteed to look and feel better with age. Reverse goodyear welt, handmade in Massachusetts.
